General Notes:

  • Track along the pond beach repaired by the Slipper Mill's lorry drivers in winter.
  • Slipper Road created  in the 1970s from the foreshore by residents and Arthur Philips, developer of Roundhouse meadow
  • George, the dragline operator, brought mud from the pond to form the early bank
  • Fill and rubble placed by volunteers
  • Surface made from 'spare' loads of tarmac as they became available
  • "Sailaway" - David & Jan Urry's house built on the site of a fuel tank depot
  • Depot had 5 tanks - fuel brought in by sea and an underground pipeline from the shore
  • Roundhouse meadow - old brick works
  • Slipper Park -  initially settlement for fairground people after fair in front of the Royal Oak could no longer be held.
  • Contributions to repair of Slipper Road and edge of road strengthened - 2000
